is NOT a friend of Hannah and I. Hannah decided she was going to start making fancier more exciting food for us, so we made a list and went off to Safeway, to get the ingredients for lunch, dessert, and frappuccinos. One of the ingredients needed for her grilled peaches was Balsamic Vinegar. We weren't really positive what it was or where to find it, so we called our cooking-expert sister Nicole. Then, we went to find it. We found it, or what we thought was it, in the oil isle, but it was too expensive we decided, so we went to Walmart to look for it. We couldn't find it there. So we moved on to Smiths. It wasn't there either. With an incredibly grumpy spirit, we headed back to Safeway to get the expensive vinegar. When we found it again, we realized it was the same bottle as one of the vinegars we had seen at Smiths, and so we were of course quite frustrated, because it was cheaper there. So Hannah grabbed it and suggested that we go to the salad dressing isle, just to make sure there wasn't something cheaper over there, and besides, she added, I'm not really sure this is the right one. So on we went to the dressing isle and who would have guessed, there sat our Balsamic Vinegar, three dollars cheaper, and definitely the right one.
"It was probably at every store we went to." Hannah said
"You're probably right." I replied.
So, still a bit grumpy, despite finally finding the vinegar, we left. Then we pulled out the wrong exit at Safeway and had to wait forever to finally get home.
Stupid Balsamic Vinegar.
Behold: The Creation
Well, was it at least delicious? You should have just come over to borrow some from me, silly!
ReplyDeleteOkay - here's a big time insider tip.
ReplyDeleteBuy the cheapest Basalmic Vinegar you can find, put it in a small-ish saucepan on medium heat. You want to simmer it until it's about reduced to half. This makes kind of a syrup-y type solution.
I love to grill asparagus and brush it with this syrup. It would be great with your peaches, too! It's really great stuff.
Also - my favorite italian salad dressing - buy the Good Seasons little packet of dry salad dressing mix, follow the directions, using olive and/or safflower oil and basalmic vinegar. Yummy!
Gold star, girls!
